Drummoyne is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Founded in 1794, the suburb-tucked into Sydney's inner-west retains a largely residential feel (although it has some industrial heritage), and neighbours the similarly historic Five Dock, Abbotsford and Balmain. Surrounded on three sides by Sydney Harbour and the Parramatta River, the suburb is home to some of Sydney's best waterfront views. Victoria Road, one of Sydney's most used roads, cuts through the heart of Drummoyne en-route to the Sydney CBD; a fact which has become something of a mixed blessing for residents. Although Victoria Road's presence makes the CBD-Sydney's transport hub-extremely accessible (as numerous and frequent bus routes from Sydney's West merge in Drummoyne), it has also lead to the infamous 'Drummoyne Bottleneck' during the morning and evening peaks, where a usual 10 minute drive to the CBD can occasionally take upwards of an hour. Regular Ferry and Rivercat services from the Wolseley Street wharf also provide a relaxing and somewhat unique transport option for Drummoyne residents. Drummyone's other ferry wharf at Birkenhead Point re-opened in 2006 after a temporary closure. Drummoyne is home to the picturesque Drummoyne Oval (situated on the banks of the Parramatta River); which, apart from providing a permanent home to Sydney first grade Cricket side Balmain-UTS, occasionally hosts the NSW Blues Cricket side in the national ING Cup competition. With a lush, carpet-like playing surface to go with the ground's relatively large capacity (approximately 8,000) and stunning locale, the oval is rated as one of Sydney's best for Cricket, Australian Rules Football and amateur Rugby Union alike. Drummoyne is home to an Olympic pool which must also rank amongst Sydney's most picturesque. Located on the banks of Iron Cove, filtered chlorine is separted from open water by only 3 metres of poolside deck. The large grandstand located on the pool's opposite end also makes the facility a favourite for Sydney school carnivals and representative events. Drummoyne is now part of the City of Canada Bay, a municipality formed in 2000 by the amalgamation of the municipalities of Drummoyne and Concord. It is part of the State electorate of Drummoyne and the Federal electorate of Lowe.
